- Arrange to have your utilities disconnected the day after your move and new services activated several days before you move in
- Arrange Storage if needed
- Take your car for tune-up if necessary
- Arrange travel plans if needed
- Arrange pet care if needed for move day
- Book your move with a mover
- Cancel gym and club memberships
- Notify schools of moving
- Update your insurance home policies of new addresses
3 Weeks before Moving
- Cancel services at your old place and arrange service at your new place-lawn service, house cleaning
- Fill and transfer prescriptions for family and pets
- Dispose of flammables such as oil and gas, old paint, and lighter fluid
- Declutter your items and decide what you want to take and what to dispose
- Schedule a yard or garage sale to sell your unwanted items
- Donate unwanted items to Charities
- Inventory all your Valuables to determine replacement values for Insurance
- Label your boxes you pack
2 Weeks before Moving
- Gather all your important records-medical, financial, insurance, marriage, pass ports and legal documents
- Change your address with the postal office
- Pack up your kitchen
- Have rugs and draperies dry clean and packed for the move
- Check your furniture for any damages before moving
1 Week before Moving
- Defrost your fridge
- Dispose of perishables
- Transfer funds from bank to your new bank
- Prepack suitcases and change of clothing and bath items
- Take the day off when you move
Day of Your Move
- Be available at the time of pickup and delivery of your shipment
- Make sure your movers use furniture blankets to cover furniture and kitchen appliances
- Movers have floor runners to protect your floors
- Take kids and pets to a sitter if needed
- Load your car with essential items needed
- Sign and get copies of bill of lading and Inventory List
- When all is loaded on truck, check attic and garage for left items
- Shut and lock windows
- Lock doors
- Make sure your utilities are working at your new home
- Receive keys to your new home
- Inspect your new home
- Enjoy your new home
