Start Early
You can start early in the morning when the heat is not so intensified. Packing up before moving day will help your move run much smoother. The beginning and end of the month and weekends are always packed that’s when most people move. Week days are usually slower days than the weekends.
Be Prepared for the Heat
Wear comfortable cool clothing such as fabrics as cotton or linen. You may want to wear a hat and have sunscreen with you and bring lots and lots of bottled water and an ice chest filled with ice. Gatorade is also a great thirst quench. One of the best ways to stay cool is to have cold towels on hand to hand out for you and your helpers. Big portable fans are great to set up outside or in a garage to keep you cool. Exposure to high temperatures can be dangerous. If the weather is hot, it’s important to be aware of any signs of overheating such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, weakness, fainting, muscle cramps or general confusion. You need to stop and take care of yourself. Children and pets need to be kept cool or find someone to take care of them during the move.
Turn on utilities before the move
When you move, switching on the electricity- air conditioner is a top priority during the summer months. You also want to take care of your belongings that will not fare well in a hot moving truck. CDs, candles, vinyl records, electronics, wines and medicine should be taken with you in your car. Perishable items need to be stored in a cool place too. You do not need to let summer moving scare you, just plan ahead.
